Our Story

When Imre Mencshelyi began planning for the next stage of his career – better known as retirement – little did he and wife Sue realise this would spawn a new venture quite unlike anything they had embarked upon before.

Looking for some land, the very young olive farm situated just outside Margaret River presented an opportunity too good too miss, and so Whirlwind Olives was born, with 2,500 olive saplings, a half-completed shack, a gravel road and an enormous amount of work just waiting for someone’s teeth.

Which probably explains how the farm and overall business name came about: Toil for Oil.  So don’t be confused if you visit the farm-gate and see the sign – you’re at the right place.

After adding an enormous amount of infrastructure, including a 500 metre bitumen road, completion of five kilometres of fencing, installation of three sheds covering an area of 10,000 square metres, completion of the shack and addition of an accommodation block, three water tanks and two dams, the farm is a spotless retreat for friends and family.  As well as producer of fantastic olive oil, of course.
